The reason most garages fail as storage spaces isn't lack of space — it's that floor space is being used for things that should be on walls or overhead. The garage floor should contain only your cars and things that need to be at floor level (bikes, trash cans, lawn equipment). Everything else goes up.

Here's the system I install when doing a garage organization project, in order of implementation.

• Wall-mounted track systems (Gladiator, Rubbermaid FastTrack) cost $150–$300 for a full wall and support several hundred pounds when properly anchored into studs.
• Overhead storage (ceiling-mounted platforms) is often the biggest untapped space in a garage. Most two-car garages have 200+ sq ft of ceiling-adjacent space.
• Epoxy floor coating transforms a garage visually and practically — it's easier to clean, hides stains, and makes the space feel finished. A DIY kit costs $100–$200 for a single car bay.
